Resolute Celebrates International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day (IWD). It’s a day about celebrating achievements in women’s rights, recognizing the contributions women have made, and taking time to educate ourselves on issues of continued or rising concern so we mobilize will and resources to address them.

Much progress has been made since 1908, when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. But the work continues to evolve, as does the social and economic landscape in which we live and work.

The United Nations Observance of IWD 2023 under the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, recognizes champions of digital education. It also spotlights the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in online spaces. Globally, 85% of women have experienced digital violence or witnessed it towards other women. This latter issue is one we can all contribute to addressing. How? By exercising vigilance, respect, and where appropriate, advocacy.

The Canadian 2023 theme, Every Woman Counts, is a reminder that all women have a place in every aspect of society, including the economic sphere.

Women and allies need to challenge stereotypes, call out inequalities, address biased practices, and actively promote fairness and inclusion.

Resolute has been involved in the national action plan on “Gender Equity in Canada’s Forest Sector” and communicating about the resulting resources. This important work on gender equity and inclusion continues in our Human Resource practices. We all have a role to play.  Here are some action steps to consider:

  • Communicate ideas or concerns to the DE&I working committee ambassadors within your business segment to improve or resolve situations.
  • Help promote a diverse workplace by making use of the Employee Referral program designed to attract quality candidates.

As a workplace and community, we all benefit when there is equal access for individuals to make the contributions and occupy the positions to which they aspire.

Join us in celebrating, in learning, and taking action, so we can contribute to our full potential as individuals and as a workplace.

We all win together when we empower each other.
