Jackson Wijaya is an Indonesian businessman and investor. Under his ownership, Domtar (formerly Paper Excellence Group) has grown into one of the leading pulp and paper companies in North America. He also brings his vast operational experience to private investments in real estate, healthcare, and technology across Asia and the Americas.
As part of a family of entrepreneurial business leaders and investors, Mr. Wijaya set out at an early age to create his own enterprise. He founded the Canada-based Paper Excellence Group in 2006, which was re-branded to Domtar in 2024, and has since grown through acquisitions of best-in-class assets in the United States, France and Canada. What started with a single mill is now more than 60 operations and 14,000 employees, bolstered by the acquisitions of publicly-traded Resolute Forest Products in 2023 and Domtar Corporation in 2021. Along with its sister organizations Fibre Excellence and Paper Excellence Brazil Domtar has an estimated annual revenue of $10 billion USD.
Under Jackson Wijaya’s leadership, Domtar’s rebrand builds upon the solid foundations of its predecessor organizations, with an emphasis on continuity and growth across North America and beyond. Mr. Wijaya initiated the rebranding of Paper Excellence Group to Domtar in 2024, aiming to honor the company’s legacy while driving innovation and expansion. By integrating acquisitions like Resolute Forest Products and Domtar Corporation, he reinforces a vision that values heritage, sustainable practices, and quality. This initiative reflects his commitment to weaving the strengths of each acquisition into a unified, forward-looking organization that remains deeply rooted in its established principles.
Across all facets of the business, Mr. Wijaya drives an ethos of impact. Paper Excellence has invested nearly $5 billion in local mills and communities, education and scholarship across North America, and global humanitarian and disaster relief. The company activates its commitment to indigenous communities through job training as well as procurement and mill ownership opportunities. In 2022, Paper Excellence executed the largest private land conservation agreement in Canadian history, supplying 1,450 square kilometers of boreal forest to the Nature Conservancy of Canada for research and conservation.
An industrial engineer by training, Mr. Wijaya earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Michigan. He serves on the Executive Board for Asia at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Wijaya is an avid reader with a passion for world history, an enthusiastic fisherman, and a devoted family man who spends his free time with his wife and children.
