Domtar launched its 2030 Sustainability Strategy in May 2025, and a great deal of work is now underway across our business units. We’re building on that framework to ensure we reach our 2026 targets and are working toward the targets we committed to achieving by 2030, including a roadmap that will ensure systematic follow up on the progress of the Strategy’s three pillars. This Q3 2025 Sustainability Strategy update and quarterly updates going forward will break down our progress by pillar.
Within our Environmental Stewardship pillar, we’ve set several key objectives related to how we steward our planet’s resources. In Q3 2025, our progress toward those objectives includes:
- Releasing our new, harmonized Environmental Policy, replacing long-standing legacy company policies.
- Refining our inventory of Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions — those originating from our supply chain rather than our operations and energy purchases — including the integration of our Scope 3 inventories from legacy companies. We’re also developing a cross-company action plan to define a comprehensive GHG emissions reduction target by 2026.
- Creating a roadmap to validate our 2020 baseline for water use in paper and packaging operations and to identify a portfolio of projects to achieve a targeted 20 percent reduction by 2030.
When it comes to how we interact with Our People and Communities, we have made good progress toward meeting our long-term goals related to employee safety, Indigenous partnerships, community engagement and employee experience and talent development. For our Q3 2025 Sustainability Strategy update, we have:
- Released a new integrated Global Indigenous Relations Policy.
- Continued to support the First 30x30 Canada initiative, which helps define conservation-based business opportunities for Indigenous protected and conserved areas (IPCA).
- Improved our framework for community engagement with Domtar Connects.
- Set up our Strategic Safety Steering Committee to continue the integration of better safety practices across Domtar.
Our Responsible Business pillar is the foundation for how we engage customers, business partners and other stakeholders ethically, transparently and sustainably. In this Q3 2025 Sustainability Strategy update, we’re proud to share that we have:
- Prepared our inaugural sustainability report as the new Domtar, drawing on the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board. The report is scheduled for October 7 release.
- Submitted our inaugural CDP disclosure as the new Domtar, including Scope 3 emissions data and water-assessments.
We’re also continuing to roll out video and other materials overviewing our strategy, and we’re developing new initiatives to support employee professional development, collaboration and engagement on sustainability.
Our sustainability strategy is ambitious, rigorous and transparent, with focused and measurable performance targets. We will continue to share updates about our progress through quarterly reports like this Q3 2025 Sustainability Strategy update.
