Our Focus Areas

Our Domtar Connects program is the “home base” for all that Domtar contributes to our Company, our Employees and our Communities, and has three main focus areas:

  • Education and literacy –Domtar produces paper for books, which are vital to education and literacy.

  •  Humanitarian needs –Our products are used in materials that support humanitarian needs and rebuilding efforts following natural disasters.

  •  Environmental/sustainability –The social and environmental benefits of our products reflect the importance of prioritizing sustainability and environmental issues.

The ultimate goal is to have Domtar Connects and Connectors at every location making meaningful impacts in our communities and for our employees.

Eventually, there will be many aspects of Domtar Connects, but for now we have three very powerful platforms.

  • Domtar Connectors – This group would be responsible for reviewing “asks” that come to local Domtar facilities and, where possible, manage a plan/event to engage our local employees in the organization.

  • Corporate Community Investments – The Company’s Community Investments align our financial donations with the Company’s mission, vision and values, establishes long-lasting partnerships and impacts the communities where our employees live, work and play. By leveraging resources and networks, the Company will support the mission of organizations addressing social, environmental and economic challenges.

  • $2K Your Way – $1K Your Way was launched in 2019 as a new way to engage our employees in contributing to our communities. Since then, 100s of $1 and now, $2,000 grants have been given to non-profits, sponsored by employees that are passionate about the work being done. For instance, a colleague is encouraged to apply for a $2,000 grant from Domtar to, not only donated to the non-profit of their choice, but to participate in and directing that $2,000 toward a community service project.

Winners are asked to complete their service project before December 31, 2025, and share videos or pictures of the activity to share with Domtar’s community investment team and the Company at large. This material will be beneficial to building a continuous content/engagement strategy throughout the rest of 2025 using various channels, and to position the 2026 campaign.

The Company does not make charitable donations to:

  • Individuals – This includes educational scholarships made directly to individuals rather than through a third party such as a schoolboard.

  • Overhead costs (e.g., salaries and rent) – Community investment funds should expand or enhance the benefits delivered by well-established organizations that have records of proven results.

  • Organizations that discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, gender identity or expression, genetic information or any other legally protected status.

  • Religious organizations that primarily serve their faith community. For example, the Salvation Army qualifies to receive community investment support, even though it is a faith-based organization, because its mission is to meet human needs without discrimination.

  • Organizations or charities of elected officials or where an elected official or candidate sits on the board or panel of such charity or organization.

  • Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns.

All funding applications must be submitted through our online form and submitted between January 1 and November 30.

Requests will be reviewed every two months and the organization requesting the donation will be contacted by email regardless of approval.
