Located in northwestern Saskatchewan, Meadow Lake Mechanical Pulp has a longstanding relationship with the community and local First Nations. Commissioned in 1992, Meadow Lake Mechanical Pulp’s purchase by Paper Excellence in 2007 marked Paper Excellence’s entry into the Canadian pulp and paper Market. The Meadow Lake Mill is a leading producer of high quality Bleached Chemi Thermal Mechanical Pulp (BCTMP). This pulp is used by customers primarily in Asia to make a wide variety of products from tissue and paper towels to food and board packaging.
Located on the western side of spectacular coastal British Columbia, Howe Sound Pulp and Paper is one of the oldest operating mills in the province. Completely rebuild to modern standard in 1991. Generations of families who were first attracted to the area by mill jobs, stayed to have made the Sunshine Coast their home. Howe Sound Pulp and Paper facility is a leading producer of high quality Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulps. These pulps are used by customers worldwide to make a variety of products from tissue and paper towels to fine writing paper.
Located on the western edge of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia, Skookumchuck Pulp is a vital employer to the area. Commissioned in 1968, Skookumchuck Pulp has seen substantial modernization work making the mill one of Domtar’s most sophisticated facilities. Skookumchuck is a word derived from the local First Nations language meaning “strong water” and the name of the creek that supplies the mill with water. The Domtar Skookumchuck Pulp Mill Incorporated facility is a leading producer of high quality Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulps. These pulps are used by customers worldwide to make a wide variety of products from tissue and paper towels to fine writing paper.
The mill became part of Resolute Forest Products in 2015 and the Paper Excellence Group in 2023 and is ideally situated to serve customers in the Eastern United States.
Domtar’s Coosa Pines mill, located on Alabama’s Coosa River, began operations in 1950 as a joint venture between Kimberly-Clark and newspaper publishers. For many years, the mill produced newsprint for publishers located predominantly in the Southeastern United States. Fluff pulp was added to its product offering in 1976 with the installation of a new kraft line, a recovery boiler and a pulp dryer. In 2000, a $63 million “cluster rule” upgrade to the pulp mill was finalized. The facility now produces kraft pulp used worldwide and is considered a leading manufacturer of pulp used in tissue and absorbent consumer products.
