In recent years, Domtar has made a concerted effort to reach out to its stakeholders to learn more about their concerns and foster a better understanding of our organization.
In many of our locations, we have created forums through which stakeholders can communicate directly with company representatives. In Windsor, Wisconsin, Ashdown, Espanola and Woodland, we have formed Community Advisory Teams made up of key individuals from local government and area businesses. These teams meet regularly to provide feedback on community activities and receive updates on what is happening at the mill. In addition, in Espanola and Windsor, we host open houses, inviting neighbouring residents to tour the mills and learn about how we operate.
Through our participation with the Canadian Boreal Leadership Council, we work with numerous stakeholders who share the common goal of preserving the Canadian boreal forest. These include First Nations, several conservation groups such as ForestEthics and WWF-Canada, as well as other resource companies committed to sustainable development.
With the concerns of all forest users in mind, we developed an interactive Internet-based application on our corporate Web site that invites interested parties to comment on the management plans for all our forests. We were the first paper and forest products company to welcome feedback on our forestry practices.

As part of our commitment to FSC, we promote the principles of responsible forest management in the marketplace. The initiatives surrounding the marketing of our Domtar EarthChoice papers also contain an educational component, informing consumers of the benefits – both in terms of performance and good business – of using environmentally and socially-responsible papers.
