The premium choice for specialty, high strength / low bulk uses.
Characteristics
Tensile Strength:Birch is the strongest hardwood species available, developing tensile double that of mixed northern hardwoods and close to that of southern softwoods, with significantly lower energy requirements.
Opacity: Birch has a low refined opacity, and is suitable for applications where translucency is desired. The higher coarseness of a hardwood species combined with a low cross-sectional area produces a very dense, well-formed sheet. Elemental chlorine free (ECF).
Value-Added Features
Birch is an ideal substitute for softwood in a furnish. Its long, collapsible fibers develop tears and tensiles similar to those of softwood fibers, with significantly lower energy requirements.
Pure Benefits
- Strongest of the hardwood species
- Developing tensile is double that of Northern mixed
- Significantly lower energy required to develop tensiles
