Yueying Zhong Biography


Yueying Zhong, former Associate professor of Art at Luxun Academy Fine Arts in China is an artist and critic with much achievements. He has published more then 70 academy papers in various art periodicals in China, Taiwan and South Korea. He is the author of four books: The Comparative Chronicles of Major Events in China and Western Art History, Charm & style. Breakthrough in Art Creativity and The Creativity of Original Art. He left China in 1995 and thereafter began his career as a professional artist in the United States.


In 1979, at the age of nineteen, Zhong first published his paintings on a local newspaper. In the following year he was further commissioned by the editor to a set of paintings for the same newspaper. At the same time, facing competition among 10,000 applicants for 65 spots, Zhong was admitted into the Chinese Brush Painting Department of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in northern China. He graduated in 1984 with a bachelor degree of Fine Arts. He became a faculty member at the same college. Zhong studied at Beijing University from 1985-1986, where he majored in Chinese Aesthetics and Art History. In 1991, he received his Master of Fine art from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts. While being an Assistant professor at Luxun Academy of fine Arts, Zhong also worked as the editor of Fine arts, one of the most prestigious art journals in China. Three years later he was promoted to the associate professor, which usually takes five years. He was also the guest editor for other prestigious art magazines/journals in China, including Garden of fine art, Contemporary Academy Art, and Grand View of Fine Art in China.


Zhong’s paintings were widely exhibited and published in art journals and newspapers in China and USA. In 1990, one of his essays won the first Wu Zuoren International Fine Arts Exchange Foundation award, which later published as the book, titled as Charm and Style by Shanghai Fine Arts Publishing House in 1997. In 1994, his painting Water Village won the special oversea grand prize at the Asian international Ink and Brush painting exhibition held in Tokyo, Japan. He was also named as a Missouri outstanding Artist by Art Saint Louis and won many awards in US.


In 1999 He had a Solo Exhibition, “The New Contemporary Chinese Paintings” at Williamwood University. The following year in 2000 he had a solo show “The Four Seasons” in Stephen College. In 2001, Zhong was selected to have a solo Exhibition at Missouri State Museum---Elizabeth Rozier Gallery. In 2002, he had a solo exhibition at University of Missouri, and in 2003, Zhong was invited to have a solo exhibition at Saint Louis University Museum of Art. In 2007 he had a solo exhibition at Dominican University. In 2007, he had a solo exhibition at the Art Museum of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, and Zhongbai Art Museum in China. He also had several others solo and group exhibitions in Saint Louis, Kansas City, Jefferson City, and Columbia, Missouri. His paintings have also appeared in featured articles in the US and China media. Now he is a guest professor of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, lives and has a studio in Corte Madera of Marin County, California.
