Changes in temperature and humidity have a significant effect on paper. Because the amount of water vapor present in the air varies greatly depending on geography, season, climate, time of day and the weather, paper manufacturers and converters wrap their products in vapor barrier packaging to prevent moisture transfer between the paper and the air around it.
The environment around the printing equipment should provide stable temperature and relative humidity conditions. Optimal performance is achieved at between 40-60% relative humidity and between 65-75º F.

Always load the ream according to the directional arrow on the package, even if both sides are eventually going to be imaged. Some Enterprise Group products have labels with arrows and/or printed directions.
