Frequently asked questions

14 - Q : One of my trees broke in two 6 feet from the ground, leaving no branches. Is it a total loss?
It is quite possible that this summer the tree may produce vigorous vertical shoots despite the total absence of branches. These shoots are produced by dormant and adventitious buds that appear after serious injuries. Let them grow this summer. In two years, choose the healthiest and best-located one and cut off the others. With patience, you can save your tree. Understand, however, that some species do not survive such injuries. For example, birches and beeches are very sensitive to topping.
