Frequently asked questions

44 - Q : Is it possible that some species of wildlife were not affected by the ice storm?
A : Yes. Observations seem to show that large mammals like Virginia deer and moose will benefit from the ice storm. The conifers in which they find shelter generally withstood the freezing rain better than deciduous trees. The damage to hardwoods has made large quantities of food available. At the height of the ice storm, deer were observed outside the forest, probably while ice and branches were falling.
