Frequently asked questions

42 - Q : With regard to long-term impact, what species were the hardest hit?
A : It may be that habitat changes caused by the ice storm, or changes that will occur when dying trees are harvested, will have an impact on the structure and composition of the birds' habitat. This situation would hit species that live in the forest canopy hardest, as well as some species of perching songbirds (warblers, flycatchers, vireos etc.). The great blue heron is another species that may be affected because of the permanent nature of their nesting sites (heronries) at the tops of large trees.
