Frequently asked questions
- 21 - Q : My deciduous stand is about 5 years old. Is there any way to correct the damage to the trees?
- A : For stands under 8 years old in which the trees were severely damaged (broken trees, branches torn off, severe wounds) the plants can be cut off at ground level before the leaves appear. During the summer, select the healthiest, straightest sprout and pinch off the rest, i.e., destroy the terminal buds. Cut these sprouts off at the base the following spring so the selected shoot will not separate from the stool. If the trees are healthy, this should be sufficient. Otherwise, consider replacing the trees.
