Frequently asked questions

6 - Q : Should I strike the trees to break the ice?
A : Do not strike branches covered with ice because the ice will damage the bark and tear off twigs and the buds that should open in spring. Hitting the tree might also break off branches that are full of frozen sap and stimulate disorderly growth of dormant and adventitious buds all over the tree. Wait until the temperature is above freezing to remove ice without breaking the trunk or branches.
