Frequently asked questions

2 - Q : What can I do this winter?
A : Remove branches that have been almost completely torn off but are still attached to the trunk to prevent aggravation of the tear. The smaller the injury, the quicker the healing. Pruning should be done carefully so as not to damage the branch base and collar which contain tissue that promotes callus (scar tissue) formation. The cut should be on a 30° angle, about the same angle at which the branch meets the main stem. Do not cut too close to the trunk, because this would remove the active tissue that produces phenols to resist the invasion of pathogens. A clean, neat, smooth and slightly angled cut encourages the formation of the callus that will gradually cover the entire wound.
